There is a wide range of types of accommodation in Australia.  There is the usual hotels, motels, backpackers/hostels and resorts however if you intend on staying in Australia for a longer period of time you will be looking for a more permanent and financially viable solution.  In Australia you can either buy or rent properties. Rental properties are a great way to explore the local area and provides you time to decide if this is the area in Australia you would like to settle permanently.  For further information on the many accommodation options please speak with one of our consultants.

The banking sector in Australia consists of a number of banks licensed to carry on banking business under the Banking Act 1959, foreign banks licensed to operate through a branch in Australia, and Australian-incorporated foreign bank subsidiaries. The banking system is liquid, competitive and well developed.

Currently, the Australian banking sector is dominated by four major banks: Australia and New Zealand Banking Group, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, National Australia Bank and Westpac Banking Corporation.  The Australian government has announced that it has adopted a “four pillars” policy and will reject any mergers between the four major banks. This is long-standing policy rather than formal regulation, but it reflects the broad political unpopularity of bank mergers.

Foreign banks wishing to carry on a banking business in Australia must obtain a banking authority issued by APRA under the Banking Act, either to operate as a wholesale bank through an Australian branch or to conduct business through an Australian-incorporated subsidiary.

There are a number of foreign subsidiary banks, however only a few have a retail banking presence; HSBC Bank Australia, Bank of Cyprus Australia Limited, Beirut Hellenic Bank and Citibank Australia have a small number of branches.

Foreign banks have a more significant presence in the Australian merchant banking sector.
Obtaining finance in Australia can be difficult and we would recommend either using Monarch Migration & Education as a referral or contacting a Mortgage Broker who can advise you on your full financial position in Australia.  Should you require the services of a Mortgage Broker we recommend Brent Blackman from LoanFit to advise on all your financial needs.
